Degchi Masala Raan

Degchi Masala Raan/Spicy Mutton leg steam roast in pot


1 whole mutton leg

1 cup crushed brown onion

1 cup natural yogurt

4 tbsp papaya paste

2 tbsp ginger paste

2 tbsp garlic paste

1 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp hot spice powder

1 tbsp chaat masala

1 tbsp red chili powder

1 /2 tsp turmeric powder

salt 2 tsp
Roasted coriander powder 1 tsp

Oil for frying 1/4 cup


Step by Step Method

Step 1

Wash mutton leg properly then drain. Make deep slits over the leg.

Step 2

Sprinkle salt and lemon juice over it. Apply ginger garlic paste and papaya paste on it.leave it for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Take a large sized pot/degchi  or deep large skillet. Heat 1/4 cup oil  and fry mutton leg from both sides to give it a brown colour.
Step 4

In a bowl, combine all remaining ingredients in yogurt. Apply on fried leg properly.

Step 5

Now pour 4 cups of water in the pot/degchi  and cover the lid. Cook on low flame for 2 hours or until cooked thorough. At the end you will have some masala..It is  not fully dried like roast.Add little water if required.Degchi Masala Raan  is ready to serve.
